Tammy (T K) Heath Pierson opened SPIRIT RIVER in February 2010 to offer a place of community. The communities that T K seeks to reach include metaphysical, holistic, inspirational, wellness, eco-friendly and local to historical Anoka, Minnesota.
With a tagline of: “SPIRIT RIVER – GALLERY AND EXCHANGE” the goals were to offer a place of education, classes & lectures; books, gifts & art; and a place where one could come for spiritual counseling from a variety of established and up-and-coming intuitives and rejuvenation from healers.
One of the important factors for T K in creating SPIRIT RIVER was that it was beneficial to both its clients and its artists/vendors. A place of nurturing and promoting talents. A place to search for gifts, fun and answers.
The name SPIRIT RIVER has dual meaning. Anoka, MN is located at the convergence of the mighty Mississippi River and the Rum River. SPIRIT RIVER is located 1 block off of the Rum River, which was misnamed in a translation error from the Dakota language to English. The name was Spirit River, as in “Spiritual/Mystic River”, but the English thought it meant spirit, as in “alcohol”. As the popular drink of the day was rum…the name became Rum River. There is a current push to change the name back to Spirit River.
When T K was searching for a business name that spoke to both metaphysical community and the city of Anoka – this could not have been more perfect.
